Correcting Subluxation Through Chiropractic Manipulation

Written By Autera Health Center on June 17, 2017

Many people think the only reason to go to a chiropractor is specifically to treat back pain.

If you threw out your back shoveling snow—chiropractor.

If you can’t get out of bed after slipping on your kid’s toys—chiropractor.

If you’re barely able to turn your body because you slept on a stiff bed in a lousy motel—chiropractor.

But what a lot of people may not know is that the benefits of a chiropractor extend far beyond just relieving back pain.

You see, our spinal cords protect and hold many of the body’s nerves that extend to all sorts of different places. And when the bones in our spines are misaligned, also known as a subluxation, we may be experiencing a variety of problems we never would’ve thought would have to do with our backs.

Correcting these subluxations through chiropractic manipulation is one of the best ways to eliminate these problems for good.

Subluxation: A Deeper Look

Our spines are made up of 33 separate bones known as vertebrae. In addition to providing stability and flexibility, the collection of these bones also house and protect a mass of nerves that run from the brain to the rest of the body.

A subluxation occurs when one or more of these vertebrae or the discs between them press up against some of these nerves. While this can cause both chronic and acute pain, a subluxation might also result in: headaches, pain or numbness in the arms and legs, dizziness, muscle weakness and spasms, fatigue, reduced general health, and more.

Think of it like a system of hoses all branching off from one larger hose—if you pinch the larger hose, the water can’t get to the rest of the smaller hoses. Pinching a nerve in your spine, then, cuts off communication to a variety of other parts of the body.

How Chiropractic Manipulation Can Help

One of the best ways to treat subluxations is through the administering of chiropractic manipulation by a licensed professional. After noting your symptoms and any functional difficulties you may be having, these specialists will assess your problem and determine a proper course of treatment.

Many chiropractors have a variety of techniques that are aimed at correcting these misalignments of the spine. Some may include adjusting your vertebrae with high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) thrusts by hand while others may use the gentle application of pressure to manipulate the spine. It depends entirely on your back’s condition.

No matter what kind of problem you may be having though, seeking the advice and treatment of a skilled chiropractor to treat your subluxations could be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make!
